How To: Create a coupon

Ready to motivate your customers? Then it’s time to create some coupons. This tutorial will show you how to create a coupon and associate it with a discount type.

Web Cube supports four very flexible types of discounts that can be associated with coupons to help increase your sales: Order DiscountsProduct DiscountsShipping DiscountsBundling Discounts.

1. Click on the eCommerce tab.

2. Type the word Coupons in the search field and hit the “enter” key on your keyboard. This will search for the menu items containing the word Coupons.

3. Another way to find the Coupons menu item is to click on the Promotions menu button.

4. Click on the green + sign to open the Add New Coupon page.

5. After clicking the green + sign a new Add New Coupon page will open.

6. In the Name field type the name of the coupon. This can be any set of words that will make it easy to identify this coupon among other coupons.

7. The coupon code in the Coupon field is auto generated by the system but it can be changed to any other string of letters and/or numbers.

8. In the Description text field write a description stating the purpose of the coupon.

9. Coupons can be applied based on certain rules. For example a coupon can be applied to the checkout based on the order’s subtotal value, the country where the order was placed from, if the order has a specific item, whether the user is logged in, or if order is placed form a certain region.

9a. For example if we only want the users from Italy to qualify for this coupon select the ordercountryoption form the Select subcondition: drop down menu and click on the green + sign.

9b. Select Italy from the drop down.

10. If Can be combined checkbox is checked this coupon can be used along with other coupons on the same order.

11. If this coupon should only apply to the orders with subtotal greater than a certain amount then set that value in the Min amount field.

12. Max uses per card refers to how many times this coupon can be used with a specific credit card. Leave the field blank if there are no restrictions on the number of times this coupon code can be used with a specific credit card.

13. Active date sets the date and time when the coupon becomes active.

14. Expiration date sets the date and time when the coupon becomes inactive. When the coupon becomes inactive the user is presented with the message Coupon is no longer active.

15. Sites specifies the sites where the coupon can be used. To select multiple sites hold on thecommand key if you are using Mac or control key if you are using a Windows based PC and click on the desired sites on the list.

 

16. Product Discounts creates discounts that can be applied to individual products. See tutorial below on how to setup product discounts.

17. Bundling Discounts allows the creation of discounts like buy one get one free. You can also configure discounts that apply to one set of products if a product from a different set is purchased. See tutorial below on how to setup bundling discounts.

18. Order Discounts creates discounts that can be applied to the order total. See tutorial below on how to setup order discounts.

19. Shipping Discounts creates discounts that can be applied to the shipping fees during the checkout process. For example if the order value is over a certain amount the customer can receive free shipping.See tutorial below on how to setup shipping discounts.

How To: Create Product Discounts

This tutorial will show you how to create product discounts from the Add coupon page.

What is a product discount?

Product discounts allow the association of discounts with certain SKUs, products, product categories and other product attributes.

1. Click on the Add another Product Discount button.

2. A new product discount form will show on the page.

3. Write a short description for the product discount. This will be the description of the discount displayed in the cart.

4. Enter a discount value. The discount value depends on the Discount type that will be selected in the drop down field just below this form field.

5. There are three types discount:

a. The Percentage discount type provides a percentage off the product price. For example if the value in the Discount field is set to 50 and the price of the product added to the cart is $20 then the customer will receive a $10 discount on that specific product which is 50% off the initial price.

b. The Fixed price discount type sets the product’s price to the value set in the Discount field. For example if the Discount field value is set to 10 then the product price at the checkout will be set to $10.

c. Absolute discount type represents the dollar amount off the product price. For example if theDiscount value is set to 5 the and product added to the cart costs $20 then the final product price will become $15.

6. The priority field sets the discount priority. The value 0 is the highest priority. Discounts with the higher priority will be processed first.

7. If Stop other discounts is checked no other discounts will be applied after this discount.

8. Limit per order sets the limit on how many times the discount can be applied per order. If for example the limit is set to 1, the discount will only be applied to one product in the shopping cart. If the value is set to 0, the discount will be applied on all the products added in the shopping cart.

9. There are various rules that can be applied to the discount.

Let’s see how a discount can be applied to a list a SKUs.

9a. From the Select subcondition drop down field select skulist option and click on the green + sign.

9b. Add the list of SKUs to which the discount should be applied to. Separate the SKUs by commas.

10. If this is the only discount you would like to setup for this coupon don’t forget save your coupon along with the discount just created by using one of the Save buttons found at the top right location of the page.

How To: Create Bundling Discounts

This tutorial will show you how to create a bundling discount from the Add coupon page. More specificaly we are going to create a BOGO (buy one get one) free discount. For example if the customer adds to the shopping cart one of the products with SKU1, SKU2 or SKU3 he/she receives product with SKU4 for free (100% discount).

1. Click on the Add another Bundling Discount button found at the bottom of the Add coupon page.

2. A new Bundling Discounts form will show on the page.

3. Add a short description for the discount. This is will be the description of the discount being displayed in the cart.

4. Enter a discount value. The discount value depends on the Discount type that will be selected in the drop down field just below this field. In our case we will set the discount to 100 meaning 100% discount.

5. Select Percentage from the Discount type drop down field. This will set our discount to 100% for the item we want to offer for free.

6. The priority field sets the discount priority. The value 0 is the highest priority. Discounts with the higher priority will be processed first.

8. Limit per order sets the limit on how many times the discount can be applied per order.

If, for example, the limit is set to 1, the discount will only be applied to one item in the shopping cart.

In this case, it is set to 0, which means that there is no limit.

9. Qualified quantity represents the number of items from the qualified items that must be purchased to activate the discount. In our case we set the value to 1. This means that the customer needs to add just one of the products with SKU1, SKU2 or SKU3 in order to receive the product with SKU4 for free.

10. Qualified rules is where we set what products have to be added to the shopping cart in order to qualify for the discount.

Select skulist option from the Select subcondition drop down field and click on the green + sign.

11. A new text field will show on the page. This is where we specify the SKUs for the products that have to be added to the shopping cart in order to qualify for the discount. In our case we added SKU1, SKU2 and SKU3 separated by commas.

12. Discounted quantity represents the number of items we want to discount. In our case we want to provide a 100% discount only for one item so we added the value of 1.

13. Discounted rules is where we set the rules for the products we need to discount. In our case we want to select one product SKU. Select skulist from the Select subcondition drop down field and click on the green + sign.

14. A new form text field will show on the page. This is where we specify the product SKUs we would like to discount. Separate the SKUs with commas. In our example we want to provide the product with SKU4 for free so we added SKU4 into the text field.

15. If this is the only discount you would like to setup for this coupon don’t forget save your coupon information along with the discount just created by using one of the Save buttons found at the top right location of the page.

Although this tutorial exemplifies a BOGO type of discount, bundling discounts allows for more types of combinations. Another example would be if the customer adds two items to the shopping cart then he/she receives the third product fifty percent off. You can specify any combination of qualifing and discount products allowed by the rules engine.

How To: Create Order Discounts

This tutorial will show you how to set order discounts from the Add coupon page. We will create an order discount providing customers with a 10% discount if the order subtotal is greater than or equal to $150.

1. Click on the Add another Order Discount button found at the bottom of the Add coupon page.

2. A new Order Discounts form will show on the page.

3. Write a short description. This will be the description of the discount displayed in the cart.

4. Enter a discount value. The discount value depends on the Discount type that will be selected in the drop down field just below this field. For our example we will add the value 10 since we want to offer a 10% discount.

5. The Discount type drop down field provides three options: PercentageFixed price and Absolute.

a. The Percentage discount type provides a percentage off the order subtotal price. For example if theDiscount value is set to 10 and order subtotal is $150 the customer will receive a $15 discount.

b. The Fixed price discount type sets the subtotal order amount to the value entered in the Discountfield. For example if the Discount field value was set to 10 then the subtotal order value will be set to $10.

c. Absolute discount type represents the dollar amount off the subtotal purchase. For example if theDiscount field value is set to 10 the customer will receive $10 off the order subtotal.

10. If this is the only discount you would like to set up for this coupon, don’t forget save your coupon information along with the discount just created by using one of the Save buttons found at the top right location of the page.

How To: Create Shipping Discounts

This tutorial will show you how to set shipping discounts from the Add coupon page. We will create afree shipping discount for orders with the subtotal value over $25.

1. Click on the Add another Shipping Discount button found at the bottom of the Add coupon page.

2. A new Shipping Discounts form will show on the page.

3. Write a short description. This will be the description of the discount being displayed in the cart.

4. Enter a discount value. The discount value depends on the Discount type option that will be selected in the drop down field just below this one.

5. The Discount type drop down field provides three options: Percentage, Fixed price and Absolute.

a. The Percentage discount type provides a percentage off the shipping fee. For example, if theDiscount value is set to 10 and the shipping fee at the checkout is $20 the customer will receive a $2 discount on the shipping fee.

b. The Fixed price sets the shipping fee to a certain amount. For example if the Discount field value was set to 10 then the shipping fee that will show in the shopping cart will be $10.

c. Absolute discount type represents the dollar amount off the shipping fee. For example if the Discountfield value is set to 5 and the shipping fee showing in the shopping cart is $20 by applying $5 discount the final shipping fee will become $15.
